water falls

The lovely Water Falls - which is John Barker, Sean French (from the Theater Fire and Eyes, Wings and Many Other Things), Erik Wofford and Colin Arnold (Eyes, Wings and Many Other Things) - will be opening up for The Enright House tonight at the Mountain House, which is at 5320 Tremont in Dallas. The show starts at 8 p.m.

I have no Water Falls Mp3s on the computer I'm posting this from, so check their music out on MySpace, which you can do by clicking their name in the first sentence. But, I can post music from Eyes, Wings and Many Other Things, The Enright House and some of Water Falls-listed "influences."

Oh yea, and it's BYOB. Always a bonus.

Darkwave = MC Squared - The Enright House

Siam - Eyes, Wings & Many Other Things

Sleep at the Bottom - Low, Piano Magic & Transient Waves

Always Returning - Brian Eno

Even if You're Never Awake - Stars of The Lid

life is a pigsty

It's now been five straight days of reporting on the swine flu. Oh Morrissey, how did you know? "It's the same old S.O.S."

hey there

"I went out shooting in Austin, TX with Jake and Benji to get some shots to make a short.

Then I saw this fella, asked if he minded being filmed, he didn't and when I got back I couldn't cut him with anything else! He was just too cool. So he gets his own little short!

Don't even know his name!"

- Philip Bloom

sunday shuffle

Sunday is a lazy day, which means it's up to iTunes shuffle to choose some tunes (strangely enough it chose one with "Sunday" in the title). Smart shuffle.

Sunrise - Yeasayer
I Sing I Swim - Seabear
Sunday Morning - K-Os
The Opposite of Hallelujah - Jens Lekman
Little Bit - Lykke Li

Yay, I'm missing another good show! Apparently, those who are going shouldn't forget their earplugs. To those lucky goers, have fun at My Bloody Valentine tonight.

valerie

The Valerie Project has been out since November 2007, but I've recently been listening to it again after purchasing the album over the weekend. Basically, it was created by a group of Philadelphia musicians, including members of Espers, Fern Knight, Fursaxa, Woodwose, Timesbold and Grass. The musicians created a new soundtrack for the movie Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, a 1970 Czech film based on the 1945 book of the same name. The result is lovely, and the group has actually toured and played the music live before a large screen of the movie playing. The movie is now in my Netflix queue.

seeds of night

Just found out The Cave Singers will be playing with Dr. Dog and Golden Boots on the 23rd at The Loft. Very nice.

winner

Here is M83's video contest winner:

The third video I posted in my prior post was one of the runner-ups. I also liked this runner-up's video:

waiting

Awhile back, M83 announced a video contest for their song "We Own the Sky." While it was supposed to end in October, they extended the contest until February. Now, it's April and they have finally announced a winner has been picked. BUT, who that winner is wasn't part of the announcement. The video will debut on Pitchfork "shortly." Until then, here are a few of my favorites.

big ideas

So, this guy James Houston did a really fantastic "remix" of Radiohead's "Nude." It is done with an Epson printer, HP Scanjet, an array of hard drives and a Sinclair Spectrum. You must be patient, or just cheat and skip to 1:10, which is where it kicks in. Check it!

so sorry

Just noticed I wrote Mott the "Hopple" below in my blog about The Wackness. It made me laugh and cringe simultaneously. Thought I owed Mott the Hoople a song. Hopple you like it!

great job

Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! is like a cheap wine. It takes some getting used to before you realize its greatness. In the case of Tim & Eric, it takes a few views before the hilarity and genius (that's what I said) hits. Yes, there is bathroom humor and hideous graphics aplenty, but watch it for more than five minutes and it's like being tickled (stole that from a friend).

My sister says she likes to watch it after a bad day. I turn it on like music sometimes to listen to while I get ready. Quotes from the show have become the best texts to send and receive. It's ridiculous, but ridiculously great. Why else would it attract the likes of Zach Galifianakis, John C. Reilly and Jeff Goldblum. I just recently found Eric Wareheim's vimeo page, where apparently he makes some pretty interesting videos.
