mom

I started on the second half of the search from the list of music my mother and I made after digging through 45s over the weekend. This half was definitely more my mom in her teens in the late '60s and early '70s. My only frustration is I can't seem to find most of the music from the list. In particular, music from Smith, which one of their songs was recently used by Quentin Tarantino in Death Proof, has been hard to find in MP3 form. Their song "The Weight" was also featured in Easy Rider. The search continues.

Baby It's You - Smith
Those Were The Days - Mary Hopkin
Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
24 Hours of Loneliness - Classics IV
When We Get Married - 1910 Fruitgum Company

pure nostalgia!

Teach Me Tonight - De Castro Sisters

Be Anything (But Be Mine) - Peggy Lee
Wait Til You See Her - Ella Fitzgerald

Gee Whittakers - Pat Boone
Don't Let Go - Roy Hamilton
Would I Love You, Love You , Love You? - Tony Martin

Went to my grandparents' house over the weekend and we ended up digging through their 45s. My mom pulled a lot of them aside, some of which were the older ones she remembered my grandparents' playing when she was young. We wrote a list of some of them so I could make her a CD. This is some of the earlier ones I've found for her. The others are more psychedelic and folky (which I'll post later).

The image above is an ad for Ivory soap. Kind of scary. I thought I would post the MP3 links to the slower tunes under old grumpy pants at the top. The happier ones are under the image of the frighteningly happy and clean man below.

wrong foot

I've heard the news and wish I never had. Some movies were made for the '80s, and most of those need to stay there. Chace Crawford, the "heartthrob" from Gossip Girls, will take Kevin Bacon's place in a remake of Footloose.

I have fond memories of watching Footloose at a double feature (The Woman In Red was the other film) at a drive-in. My mom was on close watch as my sister and I kept looking back at the screen behind us to peek at a rated "R" flick. From Ren McCormack dancing in the warehouse to vent his frustrations to Ariel Moore "Dancing in the Sheets" in a fast food parking lot, Footloose was a classic in the cheesy way only '80s films can be.

The closest remake I'll enjoy is below:

P.S. Click on warehouse and "Dancing in the Sheets" above and prepare for a visual feast.

dance dance ikea

IKEA created one of the most interesting interactive sites of all times. Advertising their "smart storage solutions," the site allows users to "control" the dancing-movements of several characters in various settings. You can watch them move to A. music IKEA provides (not much fun), B. upload your own tunes or C. use your own vocals and keyboard as a drum machine.

Personally, I would skip the first room and go straight to the second. Making an older woman dance to
Motörhead while learning how items from IKEA can get you organized, priceless. But, I must say watching her move to "Jump" just might be the most entertaining.

Here are some appropriate MP3s to get you started:
If I Could Rock - Jens Lekman/R. Kelly (HI) (R&B meets Sweden pop)
Blue Suede Shoes - Motorhead (Metal meets Elvis)
You Don't Love Me - Dawn Penn (Just DUB)
Jump - Van Halen (Duh)
Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb (Duh II)

Now, get "Into the Closet"

torment of st. anthony

The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth has acquired a Michelangelo piece called "The Torment of St. Anthony," which scholars say he painted probably at the age of either 12 or 13. It is one of only four known easel paintings. Right now, the painting is in New York and won't be at the Kimbell for viewing until fall.

The painting is pretty dark, which makes me thinks it calls for a posted song from Malevellar, a recently formed metal band from Dallas that will soon be playing at the Bike House.

release the kraken

It's true. A remake of Clash of the Titans is in the makes. The battle of Perseus versus Medusa and the Kraken to save Princess Andromeda started production in late April. It's set to release March 26, 2010.

Here is the lineup:

Danny Huston - Poseidon pos

Liam Neeson - Zeus Photobucket

Sam Worthington - Perseus Photobucket

Ralph Fiennes - Hades Photobucket

Alexa Davalos - Andromeda Photobucket

Originally, Hades - the ruler of the underworld - was not a player, but it appears he may be a similar character as Calibos - the son of the patron goddess of the sea. There's also going to be a new character called "Draco," who will be played by Mads Mikkelsen. I wonder who Bubo will be?

To Louis Leterrier, the director, please make it awesome.

satan is good, satan is our pal

'That's us! It's not them - that's us! We're the ones who are vaulting over the fences and peeking in through people's windows. We're the ones who are throwing garbage in the street and lighting fires. We're the ones who are acting suspicious and paranoid, Art! We're the lunatics! Us! It's not them. It's us.'

Been listening to some recently released music (below), when I came across British Sea Power's remake of "Come Wander With Me," which the original happens to be one of my favorite songs - ever. For that reason, the Jeff Alexander and Bonnie Beecher version, which is from a Twilight Zone episode of the same name, must be posted. Click the picture above to see the video.
